| The Langhe and Roero district is an
area of hills where the vine has been cultivated for
centuries with passion and dedication by a stubborn
man who, thanks to his perseverance, has succeeded in
his intent of mellowing an area not always easy, transforming
steep hills into luxuriant stretches of vineyards.
It is located in southern Piedmont, behind the Maritime
Alps and the Ligurian Apennines, which rise in the form
of a bastion to protect this magnificent amphitheatre
of hills from the damaging effects of the Mediterranean
climate, which is healthy for man but not so kind to
the vine and its fruit.
In is divided by the River Tanaro, distressingly famous
for its excursions beyond its banks, which divides and
traces the natural, historical and geological boundaries.
But without a shadow of doubt the true protagonists
of this natural spectacle are the hills themselves,
in their innumerable aspects, sometimes sweet and sinuous
sometimes bare, almost wild, but always different, characterised
by specific and precise situations.
It will be interesting therefore to know the geology
of the land and the climate of this area, which will
help us to understand the part they play in the production
of wine, dealing with the difficult birth, millions
and millions of years ago, of this splendid territory
and its unique hills, which are now the perfect home
of magnificent vineyards.
We will also look at the climate that characterises
these hills, offering interesting in-depth information
on the climatic trend of the last ten years.
Soils and climate are the essential factors which,
when perfectly harmonised, form the basis of the birth
of a great wine, determining its character and its cellar
life, making it unique and unrepeatable as each year
goes by.
